Applications Now Open for Mekong's $10,000 University Scholarship
Mekong, a community club within the Mounties Group, is calling for aspirational students currently in Year 12 to apply for its annual University Scholarship program.
The Mekong University Scholarship, which donates $10,000 towards the successful candidates’ higher education, is open to students from low socio-economic and disadvantaged backgrounds.
The Scholarships are open to students of Vietnamese heritage, who are finishing high school in 2017 and are seeking to study a recognised discipline at an Australian university next year. Applications close on Friday, 15 December.
Mounties Group President, Kevin Ingram, said: “We are proud to support our local community, and believe in helping dedicated students achieve their education goals.
“This is the third year running we have funded the University Scholarship Program, and we’re really looking forward to receiving applications from eligible participants this year,” added Ingram.
The Mekong University Scholarship will be awarded to successful applicants on the basis of:
- Academic merit (minimum ATAR of 90 achieved in the HSC)
- Achievement in other areas such as community
- Low family income / financial hardship
Grant recipients from last year, Vivian Nguyen (Sydney Girls High School) and Linh Thuy Nguyen (Prairiewood High School), are both currently undertaking their studies at the University of New South Wales, each receiving $10,000 towards their education. Vivian Nguyen is studying a double degree in Law and Commerce, while Linh Thuy Nguyen is undertaking Medical Studies.
